The Brisbane National 4x4 Event ran from 11-13th March at the ever shrinking RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane’s CBD. Despite the decreasing footprint of the venue itself, the show was an outstanding event, filling both levels of the world class International Convention Centre. Exhibits then flowed outside and down to ‘sideshow alley’ where an array of exterior booths led a path past the outdoor arena and onto another exhibitor pavilion, which housed more big brands plus emerging contenders, as well as the boating and fishing contingent.
The show had a high quality feel about it – with impressive exhibits and a floorplan that made sense and was uncrowded. There was a noticeable shift away from the ‘cash and carry’ approach of the traditional 4WD show, with many exhibitors choosing to focus more on quality displays enticing customers to engage in one on one consultations, rather than low cost, low margin show sales.
The strength of the Australian 4WD aftermarket was definitely on display. The ingenuity of new release products and the diversity of emerging businesses - from tuning to off-road accessories, to recovery, body protection and modification components – speaks volumes for the high level of investment in this segment, fuelled by the genuine passion of the people at its core.
